Sugar & Spice & Everything Nice

Hello Sugar Lovers!

Alright its pie time! My husband gave me the idea of baking a sugar pie. So naturally …challenge accepted. It was really simple to make and it tasted pretty good too. So not much more you could ask for in a pie I guess. Let’s get started with this brown sugar pie recipe from Suzanne at All Recipes. I will link everything at the end of the blog!

Ingredients:

  • 6 Tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 2 Cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups evaporated milk
  • 4 Tablespoons butter …I used margarine…shhh
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pre-made pie shell

*Everything you will need you should be able to find in your kitchen*

First thing….yes…..yes I did use a pre-made pie crust. No I do not have any regrets….moving right along. I think sometimes it can be easier to make a pie you never have with a pre-made crust because its one less thing you can mess up! Words of wisdom people.

So your going to Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. While that is preheating unpack your pie crust and have that set out and ready.

Your then going to combine your flour, sugar, milk, butter…*cough* margarine *cough* salt and vanilla in a sauce pan. Now I have to ask, does anyone measure there salt when it’s such a small amount? Or are you like me and make it a choose your own adventure and just shake some salt in there.

Your going to cook this mixture until it is smooth and it comes to a boil. I tried to stir mine frequently as it is sugar….and heat….and I feel like my very minimal skills would for sure mess that up…whole lot of burnt sugar. So if your anything like me, keep and eye on it.

Once that has boiled your going to add the mixture into your shell and bake it at 400 for 5 minutes. Then reduce the heat to 350 and bake for 25 minutes. I was doing so well with this recipe until it came time for the bake for 25 minutes part. Me and my amazing baking skills forgot to set the timer when I reduced the heat… So I kinda just did my best. It turned out okay so that’s all I care about.

That’s it! Pretty easy right? I have been having fun with these simple recipes to get me back into the swing of things. You guys are so great for being so patient with me and my very sporadic posting times. I have decided that the next thing I’m going to make is something that I very much enjoy making…Cake! I love the freedom of decorating. I have not made an actual cake for a very long time. So needless to say I am very excited to try out a little something something that I have been contemplating for decorating. Let me know if there are any baked goods you would me to make.
