Baking During A Pandemic Chapter 3: Irresistible’s Gluten Free Brownie Review

Hello Sugar Lovers!

I feel like my titles just keep getting longer and longer. So I decided to do a review today of a brownie mixture from Irresistible’s. As you could probably tell from all my previous blogs I have zero problem with trying out some brownies. Ain’t nobody going to say no to a brownie.

I am now in my third week of being home from work…I think its week three? Who knows at this point. I will say that I haven’t actually had a bad time being at home. I really enjoy making content for you guys so it hasn’t been that hard. Well let’s get into the baking people!

Now on the back it is going to say all your ingredients and the baking directions but I will give you the ingredients.

  • 1/2 Cup unsalted butter (not going to lie I used margarine)
  • 1 Tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 Eggs
  • 3 Tbsp hot water or 1/4 cup Apple sauce
  • 1 Pack Brownie Mixture

Ok so right off the bad which I am sure your not overly surprised at….I messed up. I apparently did not read the back of the package well enough. So I bought the mixture thinking I would have everything I needed for brownies. When I got home I noticed that I needed apple sauce so on the next grocery shop I grabbed some. It wasn’t until I started baking that I read you could use hot water instead……yup…..Learn to read everything instead of skimming it Ashley. Well it wasn’t all bad I super wanted to try brownies with apple sauce in them so win win.

So your going to preheat your oven to 350 Degrees. Also make sure to grease the tin you are going to be using. I used coconut oil spray…bein all healthy and what not. Now for mine I decided that I was going to step it up a notch and make a brownie pizza…yeees! Although I’m not picky about the shape its in. If it’s a brownie I’m going to eat it. I used a circle cake pan for mine.

Any who…. So next make sure you melt your butter or margarine in my case. This was tricky for me because I do not have a microwave I use the oven for everything. The small pot I use for this was dirty and you know I ain’t gonna dirty a dish if I don’t have to. So my BRILLIANT plan was to take the medal 1/2 Cup and put it into the oven while it was preheating. Now I think this actually would have worked if I had remembered that the margarine that I accidentally got on the sides of the cup was going to melt as well…..genius. Well at least I tried!

Side Note: Please ignore my dirty oven….well now I  brought attention to it so kinda hard to do now…. moving on.

Once your butter has melted your going to add that into your brownie mixture along with your eggs, vanilla and apple sauce. Now because I was not able to heat up all the margarine mine turned out a bit lumpy. I considered using a pan and then I figured…I’ve come this far.

Now pour your mixture into your pan. Your going to bake this for 40 minutes and make sure you take your tooth pick and push it through the centre before you turn the oven off incase it needs a little longer to cook. I’m sure most of you know this trick and I have talked about it before but the point of this is to see if the toothpick will come out clean. If not it will need a little bit longer to cook. Now it doesn’t have to be one hundred percent clean if it has some crumbs and such on it there is no need to worry.

Make sure you let it cool for awhile before you dig in. I would give it a minimum of 30 minutes. This is because if you want to transfer it to another dish you are going to need to wait so it does not crumble or areas may stick to the pan.

All done!

Now I couldn’t taste the apple sauce very much but the brownies were delicious. As someone who doesn’t usually eat gluten free food it was good so you know you will probably like it. It wasn’t as dense as a normal brownies but still yummy.

So if you are on a budget right now but still want something new to try make sure you pick something up when you go to the grocery store and give it a shot. Who knows you may really like it!
