Chocolate Nightmare

Hello Sugar Lovers!

Alright guys, I’m gonna level with ya. If there was ever a blog to tell you what not to do this would be it. Have you ever had those times when you have a great idea and you think its going to be AMAZING. Then reality hits and it’s just a horrible horrible mistake. Well buckle up because this is one of those times!

Ingredients:

  • Brownie mix box
  • Candy corn
  • Milk chocolate wafers

*everything else you should be able to find in your kitchen*

First thing you need to do is mix up your brownie mix with all the ingredients needed on the box. What I have found is with cheaper brands they tend to take a bit longer to bake for some reason. So just keep that in mind if your wanting to do this last minute. For example mine was a selections brand and it took about 45 minutes.

Once you have mixed it up be sure to spray your brownie tin with some cooking spray before you pore it in. Then just put it in for the allotted time and your good to go. This whole recipe is quite simple so there aren’t many steps to it. Once you have your brownies in the oven you don’t have anything to prep really other than having your candy and your chocolate ready to go for when it comes out of the oven. While you wait you can also ponder why you even decided to try out this recipe. Just you wait though I will not only show you what not to do but I will also tell you what you should do instead. Look at me go, just killin’ it with my baking knowledge. To bad I didn’t take my own advice when I first did it.

Once your brownies are done you can take them out of the oven making sure they are done by sticking a tooth pick in the centre and seeing if it will come out clean. So what I did was I added my chocolate on top of my brownies still in waffer form thinking that they would melt into a nice chocolate coating on top. This is not….I repeat….This is not what happened….This is what happened….

Ya…..there are no words really…. I’m surprised the baking gods didn’t smite me where I stood. I tried to then pull a toothpick through it to make it look kind of like chocolate shavings. It however just made it worse. The reason it did this is because I kept the heat at the same amount as when I was cooking the brownies so it just started to crumble and harden a little bit. So the way I should have done it is to melt the waffers down and then add it on top of the brownies so it would look more like a smooth layer of chocolate on top. It’s not all bad though…look at least my brownies aren’t burnt.

If you want to see how I melted the chocolate for my candy apples it is in my poison apple blog. This is what you want to do for these as well melt the chocolate in a bowl over top of a pot of boiling water then you can pour it on top of the brownies. I go more into detail on how to melt chocolate in my poison apple blog so make sure to check that out.

Once that is done I would wait a few minutes so that when you put your candy corn on top they won’t go floating away on a chocolate brownie river. Once you have your candy on then you are all done. I was originally going to put Halloween peeps on top and then brown them up a little in the oven. I however was unable to find Halloween peeps. So that is always an option.

This blog was definitely not as detailed and complicated as some of my blogs have been so I apologize for that. This is what my page is all about though: making mistakes, complaining about it, telling you guys what to do and moving on.

Thanks for hanging out with me today guys! Please leave a comment on anything you would like me to try. Keep an eye out for my next blog it will be my final Halloween treat of the season! Also I would love to see your pictures of anything that you have tried. Make sure to share some pictures on The Baking Projects Facebook page @ashleyJ306. I would love to see all your creations!
