Hello Sugar Lovers!
So I am super excited to say that I……Ashley……amateur baker. Was entrusted to make cupcakes for a baby shower!! I know what your thinking. How did you manage to pull that off with out screwing it up and the answer is, I have no idea. So I invite you to take a journey with me to the far reaches of the baking galaxy and I can show you how I made some baby shower cupcakes!
First I must say a very big thank you to my friend Kori. She believed in me enough to entrust me with the dessert for her daughter in laws baby shower. If that’s not trust I don’t know what is. So thank you very much Kori.
I was very lucky that I was able to design them pretty much how ever I wanted to. They had a farm theme but other than that I was given permission to design as I saw fit. I gave the idea for cupcakes because it would work better with so many people. Also I had no way of making a large sheet cake. I really liked that I was about to be creative with this project.
So lets get started! Now be aware that the ingredients and tools I am going to give here are for 48 cupcakes so you can adjusted accordingly.
Ingredients:
- 4 boxes of cake mix (2 chocolate and 2 vanilla) check the back of the box to make sure you have all the ingredients to make the batter
- Around 4-5 jars of icing (vanilla)
- Red sprinkles as well as some multi-coloured sprinkles
Tools:
- Farm animal cupcake toppers (48)
- Cupcake papers (48) Blue, Red and Yellow
- 2 cupcake boxes (box holds 24 each) I got mine for cheap on amazon
- 2 pacifiers
- Cupcake tins
- piping bag with with a rose like tip
*everything else you should be able to find in your kitchen*
To start lets mix up the cake batter. I chose to do 24 cupcakes vanilla and 24 cupcakes chocolate. Now the frustrating thing about this is that you will most likely need 2 boxes because one is just slightly not enough for 24. I think mine was off by 3 cupcakes, which is incredibly frustrating. So I saved the batter and make a few other things while I was at it. Mix the batter up then you can drop it in the cupcake papers that are in the tins. You can do what ever colour you like but because of the farm theme I went with red, yellow and blue. I used an even amount of each but this is also up to you.
Once your finished with that you can pop them in the oven. Now there really isn’t much to do while you wait for these to cook and cool. We aren’t going to be dyeing the icing or making any designs from fondant so you have some time to clean…I guess, but who wants to do that? In all honesty I spent my time on the couch reading. So productive! The only issue with these cupcakes is you can only fit so many tins in the oven so I did 24 at a time because we are making 48. This can be a long process simply because you need to have time to make them, bake them and let them cool (that could totally be a song).

Once you have taken them out let them all cool down. This is up to you but you can gradually decorate as you are waiting for the 2nd batch to cool. I like doing all of my stuff in steps. The organization freak in me always wants things to be done in order. One thing you can do while you wait is put together the box for the cupcakes (which I will show you in a bit).
Lets get decorating! This is pretty easy you will just be using your piping bag with a flower like tip to make the cupcake frosting on top. Them you just add the cupcake topper and some red sprinkles. This is also open to what ever type of sprinkles you would like to do. There will also be 2 special cupcakes for the mother and father to be which I will walk you through in a bit.
Alright everyone, if you have read any of my blogs you are now very accustomed to how much the fridge comes in handy. As I was decorating I was putting the cupcakes in the box and into the fridge. I would decorate 8 or so at a time. Whenever my piping bag ran out of icing really.
Now the 2 special cupcakes I used the same icing I just used a different decoration on top. I used some multi-coloured sprinkles that were more pastel coloured. Then you will take the pacifier and place it on how you like it. I put it in its side because I thought it looked better that way. I liked this idea because at least they will be getting some sort of gift out of it.
And your done! Pretty easy right? Its just time consuming because of the amount of cupcakes. Now I decorated the box with some ribbon but that is also optional.
I want to thank Kori again for letting me have some fun with these cupcakes. It was a late night but they were still lots of fun to make and I enjoyed it.
I hope you guys enjoyed this one! Let me know if there are any recipes you would like me to try and possibly mess up.
Happy Baking Everyone!
