Hello Sugar Lovers!
So I have decided that it is now fall and pies are most definitely necessary. I will admit that I started my pie journey with an apple crumble because it sounded wayyy easier than making dough for the top of the pie. As this was my first pie I have ever made I feel like it is a good start. I was not alone in creating this though. My fiance and I survived working with each other in the kitchen…barely, but we did it!. So thanks to Cody for being the first guest on The Baking Project!
So let’s get started! Big shout out to Bless This Mess (Melissa Griffiths) and All Recipes (Jackie Smith). They gave me some great ideas for the pie. I will leave links at the bottom to the recipes that I found helpful as well.

Alright! let’s get this show on the road shall we. Now I figured I was in for a bit of a mess so I decided a shot of something a bit stronger than juice, if you know what I mean, was necessary. So once you have that step out of the way you can start baking!
Your going to want to preheat your oven to 375 and while that is preheating we can get started on peeling and cutting the apples. I drew the short stick and was in charge of peeling the apples. This was the hardest most boring part. We thought that 6 apples were necessary but we only used five and even that was a bit to much.

Once you have finished peeling and cutting your apples we can move onto the coating for the apples. This part is pretty easy which I like. When you can just throw everything in a bowl and mix it up with a spoon is alright with me. So take all of the pie ingredients and through them into a bowl. I chose to do this right over the apples because I really enjoy not having to do a lot of dishes at the end of the baking adventures. When you have that done you can mix it all up until all the apples are coated. In all honesty it doesn’t look to appetizing but it does taste really good.

Its time for the crust! So this part I will admit I cheated on. I don’t think I am confident with my limited skills to make the crust from scratch so I bought a pre-made one. Hopefully one day I will be able to make it myself but until that day there is no shame in my game! Now I am not entirely sure why but on the pie crust box it tells you to poke small holes in the bottom of the crust. We just took a fork and made very tiny holes. After that you can put your apples in. As I said before we definitely made to many apples to fit in the pie so you may have to just use your judgement on that so there is enough crumble to cover everything.
Time to crumble it up! Take all the ingredients for the crumble and stir them into a bowl. Melt the butter and stir it together. What your looking for here is literally a crumble type of texture. We gradually added butter to it to make sure we were getting the consistency right. When you are happy with you crumble you can add it to the top if the pie and try your best to cover the entire top of it.
When your done that its time to put it in the oven and wait nervously for the finished product. We left ours in for about 25-30 minutes. A good rule is check it every 10-15 minutes. I find that helps a lot to make sure everything is going smoothly.
Once its done you can take it out and bask in your success. I really like making things look more artistic so this was a bit different for me. There aren’t a lot of ways to make apple crumble look that way. Maybe when I actually make the dough for the top it will give me some more ability to be creative.
All in all the pie was good. We had it with a bit of vanilla ice cream, can’t go wrong there. The only criticism I had was there were a few tiny spots on the apple that didn’t have some of the harder inside of the apples cut. That was cody’s job though so Shhhh don’t tell him.
Thanks for hanging out with me for awhile. I hope you enjoyed this adventure.
